His research expertise spans the structural analysis and advanced design of RCC and composite structures, with specialized focus on progressive collapse resistance, blast-resistant structural systems, and seismic performance evaluation of buildings. His work also emphasizes finite element modeling and simulation techniques, along with structural optimization using passive energy dissipation devices to enhance the safety, stability, and resilience of modern infrastructure systems.
In addition to his core civil engineering research, he also explores interdisciplinary applications in the MBA and Operations Management domain, particularly in operational research, optimization techniques, decision-making models, resource planning, and process efficiency improvement for engineering and industrial systems.
Profile
Prof. Arjun M. Butala is an accomplished academician and structural engineering professional with over 13 years of experience in teaching, research, consultancy, and academic administration at Ganpat University, where he serves as Assistant Professor and PG Coordinator (Structural Engineering) at U.V. Patel College of Engineering.
He graduated with a Gold Medal in Civil Engineering (B.E., 2009) from Government Engineering College, Modasa affiliated with HNGU, Patan. He completed his M.Tech. in Computer Aided Structural Analysis and Design (CASAD) from Nirma University in 2012. To strengthen his managerial and operational expertise alongside his technical background, he earned an MBA in Operations Management from Dr. D.Y. Patil University in 2025. He is currently pursuing a Ph.D. in Civil Engineering, focusing on advanced structural analysis and design methodologies.
Prof. Butala has published more than 20 research papers in reputed national and international journals and conferences. He has guided numerous undergraduate and postgraduate dissertations and continuously promotes research-oriented learning among students. His major research interests include:
- Structural analysis and design of RCC structures
- Progressive collapse analysis and mitigation
- Finite element modeling and simulation
- Seismic and blast load effects on structures
In addition to academics, Prof. Butala has made significant contributions through professional consultancy services involving proof checking, design validation, structural assessment, and material consultancy for industrial and infrastructure projects. He also serves as a Resource Person at L&T Technical Training Centre, where he delivers expert training sessions on Steel Structure Design and Pile Foundation Design, thereby strengthening industry–academia collaboration.
At Ganpat University, he actively contributes to curriculum development, NBA/NAAC accreditation activities, and Board of Studies deliberations. He regularly organizes seminars, workshops, faculty development programs, and expert lectures to enrich the department’s academic environment and enhance student exposure to emerging industry practices.
Additionally, he has also been deputed at the University Admission Department for backend administrative and coordination-related responsibilities, contributing effectively to admission operations, data management, and institutional administrative support activities.
